At what point in Schumpeter time does Newmark’s original heresy become network orthodoxy in the bureaucrats boardroom?

His name had cropped up before; can’t remember where.
But there it was again in a blog post by Bill Thompson…

If I didn’t know any better, I’d say that ‘Plan Seamus’ was more of a network than a silo. And if that’s the case, then off come the gloves… and into the neighbour’s back yard we go.

Having been round one or two of these blocks before, it’s always been interesting to see which of the large provincial newspaper groups would be the first to ‘break ranks…’ and quietly forget the gentlemen’s agreements upon which their industrial fortunes were based…

Given tragic events in Australia of late, perhaps the words ‘forest’ and ‘fire’ ought to be dropped from OWAB’s book of over-used catch-phrases.

Shirky’s thoughts on the fall of The Tribune Group act as a timely reminder of why understanding the structural failure of the newspaper industry remains key to its potential survival…

If only because one of my more seminal, mid-life crisis moments arrived courtesy of the man – C Shirky/40th birthday/newspapers are like the record industry, etc – his thoughts on the fall of the Tribune Group are – as Jeff Jarvis points out – well worth a read….
