I’m a Hatters fan, not a Gooner. Do I really need to know where The Emirates is? No. I want to know where my County match report is. And it ain’t going to be on a Guardian API…

I’ve long been a fan of Pete Kirwan; we did good beers together when we found ourselves on the same panel at UCLAN last year.
And so for those in need of a sobering read this morning, I can only commend this to you.
Albeit with a heavy heart and a sinking feeling for all concerned. My [...]

On our 4iP voyage of discovery, here’s me re-thinking my media; here’s ‘backchat’ as a linkage tool to local TV content…

I should have mentioned it last week but in the midst of all the managerial upheaval at Carrow Road, slipped me by…
But, anyway, they’ve done it again today. So I can now add another strand to our ‘backchat’ thinking… as in what does ‘backchat’ do for you? Just what were 4iP up to when they [...]

For sickle and scythe, read lap-top and mobile. And courtesy of bestbefore.tv and 4iP, look what my mobile does now…

Here we go… two new toys from the 4iP cupboard. And congratulations to both.
For if lap-top and mobile are, indeed, our sickle and scythe, then – come this revolution, brothers and sisters – look at what we can now do off our Apple iPhones….

… we can be a hyper-local radio station; we can podcast an [...]

Courtesy of Mr Lotto, when ‘backchat’ meets ‘addiply’ this week our revenue has doubled. More lessons from out there where the metal meets the meat…

For those of you who don’t follow the fortunes of Norwich City religiously, you may – not unreasonably – have missed the fact that the last seven days have been something of a managerial mess at Carrow Road as the club’s owner Delia Smith reached for her chopping board, ditched Glenn Roeder and – today [...]

OfCom want to pin three familiar medals on Channel Four’s chest – news, local and digital. Which kind of gets us all thinking…

As a tiny green shoot poking up in the shadow of some mighty – albeit swaying – broadcasting oaks, I’m always slightly fearful of wandering into the great ‘top-slice’ debate. Not exactly my ‘patch’.
But having once upon a time been shared a dinner table with OfCom at an invite-only do last summer and having now [...]

Fair play to our Roy; he, like 4iP, is wondering wherever next for public service media… Well, funny you should ask…

As the world and his wife start to throw their thoughts into the ring as to what 2009 might bring for us all, one conculsion starts to emerge.
That John Fry – formerly, of course, my grand-master flash at Archant HQ – is in for a busy year.
But what is also very interesting is a sense [...]

What does ‘Backchat’ do? It re-thinks the way that I service my public’s media needs.

There is a real danger that me and my No1 fan could ‘enjoy’ a tennis match here, so I’ll say no more.

In fairness, it did get me to thinking about why we were able to tick a few of 4iP’s boxes this winter. And I think part of the answer lies in the title.
Sorry, their [...]

Shirky’s thoughts on the fall of The Tribune Group act as a timely reminder of why understanding the structural failure of the newspaper industry remains key to its potential survival…

If only because one of my more seminal, mid-life crisis moments arrived courtesy of the man – C Shirky/40th birthday/newspapers are like the record industry, etc – his thoughts on the fall of the Tribune Group are – as Jeff Jarvis points out – well worth a read….

Mr Shirky has been a constant companion almost [...]

In response to Mr MySociety, here’s a few more thoughts on ‘backchat’ as our 4iP baby begins to show signs of life

I’ll apologise to anyone in advance who hopes I might be able to deliver a technical explanation of how ‘backchat’ works; as I explained in the response to Tom’s comment…
http://outwithabang.rickwaghorn.co.uk/?p=185
…on such matters of plumbing I defer to my honourable web producer and tech-meister Neil [Mason] and Karl and the crew at ETT; oh and Jamie [...]

Very early days; and I’m sure we’ll do fuller de-briefs. But what’s interesting is what backchat offers by way of a straight journalistic device… for me, not you.

I’m sure there will be fuller post-mortems in the days and weeks that follow after ‘backchat’ made its derby ‘debut’ at Carrow Road this afternoon.
By and large – IMHO, of course – it did well; the platform proved pretty stable; no major crashes; the odd, glitch when it appears to go from ‘37 mins ago…’ [...]
