I’ll try and keep this brief; it’s more a case of offering a few, warm words of welcome to our latest little ‘Addiply’ star than anything else…
So, three cheers for http://www.darwenreporter.com/ and Linda… and her first Addiply advertiser in the shape of http://www.clivesphotography.co.uk/ who has, presumeably, decided that £5 per week to drop his little ‘business card’ in on the side of Linda’s new Darwen news blog represents decent value for money.
That’s his community; those are his likely customers – why entrust that £5 of advertising spend to you-know-who in the hope that his text ad magically pings back to that exact location?
And what’s more, in the spirit of ‘collaboration’ now being Queen, we can now empower our Addiply community with a spot of best practice from our No1 beta triallist Craig McGinty and his www.thisfrenchlife.com site…
Six months in and one of Clay Shirky’s ‘little experiments’ in amidst the UK ex-pat community in France has taught Craig a lesson or two about how to use Addiply as a tool for community engagement – as well as telling him where best to place his strip of advertising…

For me – and I’m biased – but this is the peoples’ revolution at work; this is us bottom-dwellers working out what works for us best; tinkering, tweaking, twiddling and testing…
I don’t know what’s best for DarwenReporter; I wouldn’t presume to tell her. DarwenReporter knows her community far better than any of us – magic black box in New Mexico included.
And the fact is that she’s advertised a text ad space on her site that’s available for £5 a week; probably about as much as it costs to place a postcard in the local Post Office window.
And she’s duly made her first £5… or minus our 10% commission.
But that’s her only cost; Linda knows her numbers; can watch her PayPal meter grow; knows that there are no-hidden extras; no smokes and mirrors.
And as her site grows and as Addiply grows, so that commission rate will in every likelihood drop.
Maybe we’ll do it for 5% next year. After all, that’s what Evslin’s Law would dictate…

… and that, I strongly suspect, is the way that we’ll go.

Hi Rick,
It’s Linda at Darwen Reporter.
Just a note to let you know that Clive’s photography is really pleased with his text ad , as its already brought him lots of extra clicks through to his website.
Lets hope other small traders see the advantage of this lo-cost way of advertising to a local audience.
Linda,
Thank you very much, indeed.
That was always addiply’s aim – to give the Clive’s of this world the chance to put their text ad in front of the eyeballs that matter to him… and a at cost that the Clive’s of this world, hopefully, think reasonable…
Stay in touch; let us know how you get on…
