More tales from the advertising river-bank, I’m afraid. We’ve now reeled in something for all you keen gardeners…

Apologies if this all gets a bit too much like tales from the riverbank… but our blogging gardener has now reeled in his first niche advertiser.

There they are. Sat top right of www.landscapejuice.com – just below the ad about the passion for growing lawns… http://www.thegardendesignco.com/

I guess the dangers are at this early stage of Addiply’s beta life that everyone assumes that these are mates of mates. People doing eachother a favour; ‘I’ve got a new ad system on my site, fancy giving it a whirl…?’

We’ve been there; done that. It’s why there is a Pilates advert from my sister-in-law sat a-top the page you’re now reading.

So as the days and weeks pass, that’s going to be one of the more acid tests. Whether or not Addiply – and the self-publishers that empower themselves with it – can truly pull in the ‘organic’ advertisers; the guys off the street whose passing eye-balls just happen to spot an appropriate advertising opportunity and think: ‘You know what? I’ll pop my advert there… where I can actually see it…’

And, hopefully, that’s what has happened with TheGardenDesign Co – that someone has made that decision for themselves and has established this simple two-way relationship between niche publisher and niche advertiser – that they’ve not entrusted their limited ad dollars to a third party to spend; instead they have simply made a decision for themselves.

For that’s where I know my customers are – among that audience, in that community there. And how do I know that they are there?

Because I’m part of that same community; that same audience. I share that same, niche passion. Only I have a product or a service to sell…

Hopefully, that’s the thinking; that’s the logic; that people still have an independent enough train of thought to make a decision for themselves.

They’re not, after all, wholly stabbing in the dark; that’s part of the thinking behind our publishers panel; that they can now make an informed decision… that it can involve both the use of the head and the heart…

There we go. What am I getting if I take out an ad on www.thisfrenchlife.com? Access to a site that currently churns through 13,000-plus views a week; and your ad will be there on the top right-hand corner. That’s the deal. That’s what you’re getting when you pop your tenner in that pre-pay PayPal meter.

Enough. Suffice to say someone else has dipped their rod in the water and got a bite. For now, that’ll more than do.
