Ha-ha…. there we go. There we go….
How long it has been there, I’ve no idea. I’ve been running around a little of late; me and Neil have had our heads down underneath the MyFootballWriter bonnet for a few days – tinkering with this and that. More on which later.
But anyway, whilst I’ve been away something slightly unusual has happened.
We have a second advert. On Addiply.
Lift your gaze a few inches and there it is. Next to the one my sister-in-law took out – with a little nudge and a wink – for her Pilates class in Fakenham…

Our self-service, DIY, niche/local advertising system has, of course, been quietly chugging away on MyFootballWriter for a little while now; with mixed results, truth be told. We’ve never really done much marketing-wise with it – certainly not ’south of the border’ down Ipswich way.
Up here in Norfolk and we’ve had some decent nibbles – the last two of which have been wholly unsolicited…

But what’s fascinating with the arrival of my new friends from Towcester and NN12 is that they have made that decision to advertise themselves; that there they are… http://www.aboutmyarea.co.uk/Northamptonshire/Towcester/NN12 … now just a click away from a website, in part, devoted to the future provision of local news.
It’s a perfect, web and media-literate audience for them; people come here – well, a few people… – come here to ponder ‘What next?’ and one of the things that may well be next is ‘About My Area…’
So let’s place our ‘brand’ where people are talking about us…
OK, so they are going down a similiar path that one day we might get to tread with www.mylocalwriter.com but, heh, no worries… there’s a proof that such web-savvie folk can think and act for themselves… that www.addiply.com has enpowered them to place their ad themselves; to not entrust that function to either a marketing agency or you-know-who… no third party intervention; just a straight, help-yourself, do-it-yourself advertising application that joins niche advertiser and niche publisher at the hip… or, ideally, local advertsier to local publisher… as they place that business card in the chip shop, that postcard in the Post Office…
The alternative is, of course, to entrust you-know-who to service you with ads… to sit back and see what some far-off black box deigns to serve up on your website. And to chuckle about it afterwards as a new media blog gets ads for Jewish singles…

WDGD? Exactly. WTFDGD when it comes to sevicing the urgent revenue needs of local/niche publishers the world over.
Towcester, we salute you…
And in the meantime I will continue to keep a beady eye on our old friends at JP; to see if they have got any nearer to getting their own self-service advertising system up and running; the one, apparently, that EasyJet were toying with…

Because ours works. It’s sat there, earning this blog money whilst I prattle away. It is, indeed, a thing of beauty. Addiply… ‘Ads that add then multiply…’
And, yes, it’s ours. And, yes, it’s trade-marked. Both here in the EU and in the US.
And me, Ian, Neil, Kev ad the Mrs we love it.

As the person and local content provider who placed the advert, it just seemed to be the logical thing to do. Have we had response, yes, quite a few clicks – running a small local daily newspaper on the web requires, visitors, content, advertising to pay for it, and the circle goes on, no content, no visitors, no advertising, so it is critical to keep content rolling in. And visitors are important – so thank yo for visiting, keep coming back.
I also hear a rumour that Trinity Mirror may have a buyer, having been about to close this week, they are now continuing to publish with a buyer in the wings. I am sure Rick will keep you posted.
Excellent… nothing like a good buy-out rumour…
James, we also have an invite for you; to a VIP do as proposed by our new pal Will at Mansized.co.uk; VIP as in Very Independent Publishers.
Time, place, content and, er, everything else really yet to be decided, but it is high time us VIPs stuck together and tried to look after ourselves… Let’s face it, no-one else is looking after us.
